Angela Laird, Ph.D.

Dr. Angela Laird is a Professor in the Department of Physics at Florida International University in Miami, FL. She received her Ph.D. in Physics, with an emphasis in Medical Physics, from the University of Wisconsin. Prior to moving to Miami, she was a faculty member in the Department of Radiology at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Her research interests are in computational cognitive neuroimaging, which uses functional magnetic resonance imaging to understand the organization of large-scale networks in the human brain. Her work focuses on developing novel neuroimaging analysis algorithms and neuroinformatics tools to yield analytic strategies for improving investigations into functional brain networks of healthy individuals, as well as in populations with psychiatric and neurologic diseases and disorders. Dr. Laird is originally from Florida and grew up in the Orlando area. Before attending graduate school, she received a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Florida State University. Dr. Laird lives in Miami near the beautiful Florida Everglades. She is the proud mom to identical twin boys, who love to visit Disney World on the weekends.
