She is particularly interested in the brain’s responses to rewards, emotional stimuli, and control of impulses. She has had several National Institutes of Health grants to fund this research and has published extensively in these areas. Dr. Heitzeg is from Michigan originally and grew up in the Flint area. Before attending graduate school, she received a Bachelor’s degree in Management at Kettering University in Flint and worked for Buick Motor Division in sales and marketing. She lives in Ann Arbor now, and when not working on her research she enjoys trail running in the many parks in the surrounding areas, and relaxing with her Saint Bernards.
