Deanna M. Barch, Ph.D.

Dr. Deanna M. Barch is the Chair of Psychological & Brain Sciences and the Gregory B. Couch Professor of Psychiatry at Washington University in St. Louis. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. Her research focuses on understanding the development of cognition, emotion, and brain function so that we can better understand the challenges in behavior and cognition found in illnesses such as schizophrenia and depression. Dr. Barch is originally from Missouri and grew up in the St. Louis area. Before attending graduate school, she received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Northwestern University and worked as a case manager for the chronically mentally ill in inner city Chicago, IL. She lives in St. Louis, MO, and when not working on her research she enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters.
